Hostile Territories

Hostile Territories is a massively multiplayer browser based space strategy game. It uses PHP to generate the pages and a MySQL database for storage of data. The aim of the game is simply to build up a spacefaring empire and have fun. The idea was to make the game universe as open as possible, allowing players to do anything they want, without putting lots of restrictions in place. Payers can expand by non-violent methods if they wish, by harvesting, colonising and trading... but where is the fun in that? The militaristic side of Hostile Territories is it's main feature. There are 63 different types of military unit in the game. That's 7 types of planetary defence, 7 generic ships that every race has access to, and then 7 'race specific' ships for each of the 7 races. While it is not possible to build another races ships... you can capture them in combat, so it is quite possible to have a fleet with every single ship type. In Hostile Territories, military prowess is rewarded as well as size. When you destroy ships in combat you will be awarded points to you military score (which never goes down). The more risky the target, the more score you get.

As well as a large number of ships, there is also no limit on the number of planets you can occupy, however trying to manage and protect 100 planets is a difficult task. It's up to you to decide when enough is enough. Hostile Territories also includes community based features, such as a comprehensive alliance system, which supports custom ranks, coordinated operations, inter-alliance relations and even the ability to write newspaper style reports that the entire community can read. There is also the contracts system which allows players to pay other people to do the dirty work for them. Perfect for setting up a mercinary lifestyle.
